WordPress Themes

November24

I thought I’d blogged this before or at least saved it somewhere in my bookmarks etc. but failed to find it anywhere in my records. So I’m doing it now! Here is a great resource for free WordPress themes. Has a great easy way to search for what you are looking for too.

Girly Blog Templates

July23

I love this website for its simple, cute, girly wordpress themes. She really only has a couple of layouts that have just been designed in different ways. I also really like her logo – very nice.

Duoh!

This company is so inspiring to me. It is a husband/wife design team that started in 2000. Veerle Pieters was named one of the 30 Most Influential People in Web Design by webdesigndev.com. I love everything about them from their name to the logo to the website to the projects they’ve done. Their branding is so strong it is incredible – Love It!

Concept Feedback

July15

I saw this new website posted on a blog and it is a pretty cool idea. It is a feedback site for designers (mostly graphic and web design related). You simply create a profile, post your design, and then people comment on it and give you suggestions. As they mentioned on the blog I saw it on, it seems that “real design people” are actually the people using the site which is nice. I thought it would mostly be people totally ripping other people’s designs to shreds, but for the most part, the comments are very mild but helpful. Even if you don’t want to put your own designs out there for criticism, it is neat to see what people like and don’t like on any random design concept.

Best Blog Designs

June10

So every once in a while, I stop blogging for a period of time…but when I get back into it, one of my favorite things to do is to select a new wordpress theme. I’ve spent hours over the last two days searching for the perfect theme. Sure enough, Smashing Magazine just recently released their 100 best wordpress themes for 2009. Most of the themes I liked are on this list – a good source for later.

I tend to like 2 column style layouts with bright colors, vivid graphics, and grunge effects. Here are some of the themes from this list that I liked a lot and that we have recently used for other projects:

Color Paper (Demo)

Really loved this one, but there is a fixed height at the top for the most current post that really gets messed up if your post exceeds that dimension :(

Notepad Chaos (Demo)

Obviously the theme I am currently using for my blog – steal it if you like ;)

Scarlett (Demo)

Ended up using this as the layout for my portfolio website because of the film-strip design.

AutoFocus (Demo)

Jessica used this theme for her photoblog and it is fabulous!
